Jephson Gardens

First laid out in 1831 as informal riverside walks along the River

Leam, the original Newbold Gardens were developed into

formal pleasure grounds after 1846 in honour of Dr Henry

Jephson, who had promoted the town as a spa. Jephson

Gardens gained renown for its band concerts, archery and

tennis, illuminations, trees and flowers. It is listed as Grade II

on the English Heritage register of historic parks and gardens.

The Victorian gardens are now complemented by a modern

Glasshouse and restaurant.

Kenilworth Castle

Frommedieval fortress to Elizabethan palace, Kenilworth

Castle has been at the centre of England's affairs for much of

its 900 year history. Today, you can scale the heights of the

tower built to woo Queen Elizabeth I and marvel at the mighty

Norman keep. Explore the exhibition in the Gatehouse, and

imagine the majesty of the Great Hall playing host to medieval

monarchs and early Tudor kings.

Mary Arden’s Farm

farm on a fantastic family day out at Mary Arden’s Farm. Meet

the Tudors who run the farm just as Shakespeare’s mother

would have done, watch craft and falconry demonstrations and

explore the farmyard, playground and historic buildings. Mary

Arden's Farm is a working farm, open fromMarch - November,

with a full calendar of seasonal activities and Tudor events to

experience.

The new Cathedral is a work of inspiration. Building started

just a day after the old Cathedral was bombed during the

Blitz and the Cathedral is now recognised as a beacon of hope.

The Cathedral’s architect was Sir Basil Spence and it is home

to works from fine artists, including tapestries by Graham

Sutherland and stained glass windows by John Piper.
