Baltic Business Quarter
Baltic Business Quarter, Gateshead’s premier urban office
destination, will continue to provide a range of business
accommodation to meet the full spectrum of user needs.
Recent development includes the Northern Design Centre (5,600
m2) depicted on the front cover, the new home for the North
East’s leading creative and design businesses. It offers creative
spaces for the region's hottest designers, incubation units for
exciting start-ups, studios for established businesses, and
bespoke conference and research facilities.
Key to the council’s housing growth ambitions are the
progression of two major brownfield housing areas, Exemplar
Neighbourhood and Metrogreen.
Metrogreen is the ambitious proposal to develop land around
INTU Metrocentre into a new residential community. It will see
the area transformed from an out of town shopping area with
underused industrial land into a residential quarter with
outstanding shopping facilities and public transport interchange
at its heart.

Gateshead Quays
Iconic architecture, dramatic geography and continuing
development has established Gateshead Quays as a key cultural
and leisure location in the UK.
The Gateshead Quays Master plan sets out the Council’s vision
for a commercial and leisure-led mixed-use scheme which will
utilise and exploit the existing attractions and unique landscape
to create the North East’s premier business and visitor destination.
A fully redeveloped Gateshead Quays can provide hotels, offices,
leisure and conferencing facilities, homes and supporting food,
drink and shopping uses. Development of the site will also
provide the opportunity to re-unite the centre of Gateshead with
its river-front through improved pedestrian, cycle and vehicle
connectivity via a network of public spaces and routes.
