Guide to Development Management at Gateshead - page 16

Gateshead has built a reputation for innovation and design, for iconic
buildings and structures and for having a positive attitude to planning
through place shaping.
The key to the success of the last decade and beyond is the way
Gateshead Council has approached regeneration.
We are a Council that is not afraid to take risks and push boundaries in
order to achieve the best possible outcome for our residents. This is the
way we work and the results speak for themselves. This document is a
mixture of images of developments old and new reflecting the wide
spectrum of projects.
Many people will associate Gateshead with the Angel of the North,
BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead Millennium Bridge and
The Sage Gateshead, not to mention the award winning Saltwell Park,
the Metro Centre, Staiths South Bank housing development and the
prestigious athletic events at Gateshead International Stadium (Gateshead
was the UK representation in 2010 as European City for Sport).
It does not stop there however and Gateshead is constantly striving to
regenerate and reinvent, to push the boundaries and to plan positively for
the future toward Vision 2030. Planning is at the heart of that process.
Even when economic times are not as buoyant, Gateshead Council is
looking to support and encourage quality development through planning
and its Economic Development service working together. The Area
Regeneration and Development Management teams both guide, facilitate
and deliver development in the borough, working with developers,
stakeholders and other teams within the Council. A small selection of
schemes to show what is happening and what is planned for Gateshead
are highlighted below and are relevant at the time of this publication in 2014.
