This guide has been produced not only for visitors and newcomers to the town but also as a handy reference document for established residents. We do sincerely hope that the enthusiasm we have for our unique town comes across in the pages of this guide and that the information provided will help you make the most of your Ivybridge experience.
Ivybridge is blessed with having one of the loveliest rivers in Devon - the River Erme - running through it. The river remains a significant feature of the modern town and riverside walks enable one to enjoy its many and varied moods - from tranquil pools to white water and rushing falls. You can also view the setting for the famous J M W Turner painting (1813) of the old Ivy Bridge and stand close to the spot where the artist set up his easel.
The busy town centre is home to a variety of small shops and businesses where a warm welcome and helpful service are guaranteed. The new £4 million Watermark building in Erme Court provides a modern focus for the town centre offering an array of facilities (more later in this guide); these facilities include start-up offices and business advice thereby ensuring the town continues to offer an attractive base for new commercial activity. The town is working hard to improve its community facilities and, in addition to The Watermark, can now for example boast the cutting-edge South Devon Tennis Centre, a new youth centre, the acclaimed Ivybridge Community College and a fabulous fishing lake.
However despite its prosperity and modern facilities, countryside, woodland, beaches and moor are never far away so at the end of a shopping trip or a busy working day seek out your favourite local beauty spot, relax and take time to recharge your batteries - sheer bliss!
So make the Ivybridge experience your experience - for a day, a week or for always.
Enjoy!
