Education in East Cambridgeshire is delivered by Cambridgeshire County Council. Many villages have their own primary schools, with state secondary education provided by village colleges at Soham, Bottisham, Witchford and Ely.

Village colleges play a vital part in Cambridgeshire's education system, and each provides community activities as well as the normal school curriculum. Each college has a specialist Centre of Excellence status. The City of Ely College focuses on business, while Soham's speciality is technology. Bottisham College concentrates on humanities, and Witchford's specialism is sport.

Colleges of further education in Cambridge, Wisbech, Peterborough and Huntingdon offer a wide range of vocational training courses in skills sought by local employers.

The King's School in Ely, one of England's oldest public schools, provides independent education for both boys and girls at junior and senior level, either as boarders or day pupils. As well as having many new purpose-built buildings, the school occupies many of the old monastic buildings surrounding Ely Cathedral, with which it has close links such as through choral scholarships.

Acremont House School in Ely, run by the Governors of the King's School, is for boy and girl day pupils aged four to nine years.
